6-week-old boy dies after being attacked by family dog in his crib, family says

“You just think it will never happen to you. But it can happen to anyone, with any breed of dog, no matter how long you’ve had the dog,” the mother said.

A Tennessee mother and father are mourning the loss of their newborn son after their family dog attacked the child while he was sleeping.

Mark Mansoor and Chloe Mansoor of Knoxville, Tennessee, spoke with local media this week to share their story about baby Ezra and to warn others of the risks associated with leaving children alone with pets.

“You just think it will never happen to you. But it can happen to anyone, with any breed of dog, no matter how long you’ve had the dog,” Chloe told WBIR.

The family had two dogs at home, but it is said it was their husky who attacked without warning while the baby was sleeping in his crib. The new parents kept the dog for eight years and said he had shown no signs of aggression before.

“Ezra meant everything. There really are no words, other than absolutely everything.”

The 6-week-old boy was pronounced dead on Thursday, May 30.

“I didn’t realize until this happened how much support we had and how many people he had already loved,” she said. “Ezra was just sleeping in his crib – not crying or anything. And she attacked out of nowhere.”

Chloe continued: “All the sleepless nights and dirty diapers – looking back, I would take a million sleepless nights and dirty diapers and all that hustle, you would take it all back in a second and never take any moment or second to acquired. “

The family said Ezra’s organs would be donated.

“Being his mother has been the greatest honor and the best thing I’ve ever done,” Chloe said, according to ABC 7.

Calling the attack “unprovoked”, she warned that “it could be any dog at any time… whatever the story”.

The grieving mother added that she cherished every moment spent with her little boy and urged others to do the same.

“Really, don’t take anything for granted, even if it’s just a moment, you’re bored or frustrated in the moment. All those little moments are still so amazing,” she said.

She also asked for prayers during this difficult time.

“Really pray for the whole family. Everyone loved him so much. I know everyone is grieving right now. We are grieving right now, and this is going to be a lifelong process to try to overcome this.”

The family husky has since been removed from the home and placed at a local animal shelter.

“Young-Williams Animal Center is holding an adult dog following an incident where an infant was allegedly injured in Knoxville on May 24, 2024. The dog is subject to a 10-day bite quarantine as required state law,” the organization said in a statement.
