Elon Musk withdraws lawsuit against ChatGPT owner OpenAI

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk on Tuesday moved to dismiss his lawsuit in a California state court, accusing ChatGPT creator OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman of abandoning the startup’s original mission of developing artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity, not for profit.

Musk’s attorneys asked the court to dismiss the lawsuit, originally filed in February, without giving a reason, according to records filed in San Francisco Superior Court.

The Supreme Court judge was prepared to hear OpenAI’s proposal to dismiss the lawsuit at a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.

OpenAI and Musk’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment on the lawsuit’s dismissal.

Musk dismissed his case without prejudice, which means he may present it again at another time.

OpenAI’s lawyers said Musk’s claims in the lawsuit “are based on complex – often inconsistent – factual evidence.”
